The municipality of Mutia is a municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. It is bordered by the province of Misamis Occidental and is surrounded by municipalities of Piñan, La Libertad and Sergio Osmeña, it is one of the far-flung towns in the hinterland. On the north, it is bounded by the municipality of La Libertad, and Dapitan City; on the west the municipality of Piñan ; on the south the municipality of Sergio Osmeña; and on the east the Province of Misamis Occidental.
It is classified as a partially urban municipally although it only has two urban areas. It's income classification is 6th class and it has one congressional district. As of Aug. 1, 2007, it has a population of approximately 12,078. For the barangay of Tinglan, based on the aboved census, it has a population of 698. Tinglan has an elementary school that caters students from grade one to grade six. It also has a day care center for pre-schoolers. A satellite health station is also available for use.
The municipality of Mutia acquired its juridical existence on July 22, 1960, by virtue of Executive Order No. 402 signed by the late President of the Philippines, Carlos P. Garcia. It is currently under the administration of Hon. Melba S. Tenorio.
